Meetings this week: Firearms resolution (again), county audit, 'gun-free' schools

The Taos County Commission has a packed regular meeting schedule that includes a move by Commissioner Gabriel Romero to repeal a resolution in support of firearms rights approved two weeks ago. That resolution, which was brought to the commission by Sheriff Jerry Hogrefe and Romero voted in favor of, opposes any state law that exceeds federal firearms laws or infringes on Second Amendment rights. 

The commission also will hear a report on the county's latest audit, and consider a public notice regarding a June meeting to amend an ordinance creating the  Upper Las Colonias Neighborhood Zone.  Commissioners also will appoint new members to the Taos County Water Advisory Board including Mark Schuetz, Erminio Martinez, Nicanor Ortega, Glorianna Dominguez-Atencio and Tanya Leherissey. The commission also will consider approving a resolution to establish a fund for state money to design and build a veteran's cemetery near Taos. 

The meeting begins at 9 a.m.

Questa Independent Schools board will have a first reading of a "gun free schools" resolution and hear an audit report for the 2018 fiscal year that ended June 30. The board members will discuss money available from the state for school security as well at the meeting, which begins at 6 p.m. at the administration building. 

Taos Entrepreneurial Network meets 5:30 - 7:30 p.m. at a new location Old Martina’s Hall, 4140 State Road  68 in Ranchos de Taos. Becky Holsinger, owner of Pieces Consignment Store, will be the guest speaker. 

Wednesday, March 20:

Town of Taos Lodger's Tax Advisory Board meets at 9:30 a.m. to hear finance, marketing and tourism reports from staff. The meeting is at 400 Camino de la Placita.
