Taos Police arrested Jordin Johnson of Taos Monday afternoon (Nov. 5) after the man allegedly smashed three windows at a local business, threw a rock that damaged a vehicle and fled from police.

The incident began just before 3 p.m. Monday, according to an update from Taos Police Department, which indicated that Johnson began by kicking and attempting to throw newspaper racks in the area of Cantu Hill.

Julia Fernandez, owner of The Body Shop, a fitness center located nearby, said Johnson smashed three of her windows around the same time. A driver later told police that Johnson then threw a rock that damaged his 2001 BMW.

Multiple Taos Police units converged on the area as the male suspect fled south, past Smith's grocery store, onto Los Pandos Road.

Sergeant Ronald Montez made contact with Johnson on Los Pandos, but Johnson fled and Montez gave chase on foot.

Montez caught up with Johnson inside Unicorn Supplies and Stationary, where Johnson was sitting on the floor in the center of the store, according to the sergeant's incident report.

Johnson was placed under arrest and Officer Elise Iringan transported him to Holy Cross Hospital to be assessed. While en route, Officer Iringan reported over radio channels that Johnson spit on her from the back seat of the vehicle.

Johnson was later booked at the Taos County Adult Detention Center on charges that include battery upon a police officer, two counts of criminal damage exceeding $1,000 and evading, eluding and obstructing a police officer.
