Love letter: Love in 10 tongues

In celebration of Valentine's Day, V-Day and the power of love, Tempo invited a few women artists in Taos to share some love.

As women all over the world individually and collectively take back their power and use their voices for positive change, we stand with them, and all good men, in solidarity and spirit.

The hearts scattered throughout this issue are a reminder to us all that no matter how much we might despair, there is always reason to hope, because as Martin Luther King Jr. once wisely noted: "Darkness cannot drive out darkness: only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate: only love can do that."

The Guardian of Hearts in this issue of Tempo is Erin Currier's portrait of Greta Thunberg. Of whom the artist says, "I've chosen to portray Greta Thunberg as a saint with a mandorla comprised of seed packets - holding apples as a controversial symbol of both knowledge and the Fall of Man, and for the fact that they originated thousands of years ago in Central Asia and have since spread, just like the seeds and fruits of Greta's brave actions, across continents and oceans."

The other hearts you will find on the top of our pages beat as one, with their message of peace, love and understanding. Black, white, yellow or red, our dream of redemption is one and the same.

Happy Valentine's Day to our readers, may you all be touched by the power of love, if not pierced by Cupid's arrow.

The artists who shared their beautiful hearts with all of us are, in no particular order:

Tizia O’Connor

Anita Rodriguez

Maye Torres

Izumi Yokoyama

Theresa Gray

Claire Haye

Anne E. Bruce

Anais Rumfelt

Nina Silfverberg

Janie Romer
