Letter: Significant shift in support

I am writing this today in pride. What I have seen over the past few years is a significant cultural change, a significant shift in the support for The Taos Tigers across all sports platforms.

In 2012, my team and I set out to accomplish one goal: to bring a track and field district championship back to Taos. We accomplished that.

In 2013 our motto was “DC13” and our goal was to bring home a football district championship to Taos. We accomplished that.

In 2014, we sought to bring home a track and field state championship to Taos. We accomplished that.

A significant change has occurred in the culture of associating the art of winning with the athletics of Taos.

Now I see our track team on a five-year state championship winning streak. I watched the football team win the school’s first football state championship.

It’s a beautiful thing seeing the youth of Taos athletics winning. Taos was always seen as underdogs, the team that didn’t belong, the lucky team. However, with the recent success across all sports, the Taos Tigers have proven that they are top dogs.

The Tigers are now the team to beat. The tides have turned, and the culture has changed.

Tigers don’t just belong now; they set the bar. Supporting the youth and their athletics is easy when they’re winning, but I’m excited to see the Tigers raise that bar even further to make winning a natural instinct instead of a phenomenon.
