Letter: Honor our past, create our future

Posted

The Town of Taos’ last Comprehensive Plan, or Master Plan, “Vision 2020,” was written in 1999 and adopted in 2000. As we can all see, Taos has changed a lot in these last 18 years. As Strong at Heart has listened to everyone’s stories and heard from you what you care about and are concerned with, it is striking that many of the themes contained in that Vision 2020 plan are arising today: We want a diverse economy that offers us opportunity. We want to manage growth in a way that is consistent with community values. We want an inclusive community where all Taoseños feel respected, can work together for a stronger community and find a quality place to live.

These things are not unattainable to us. We can do this, we can get what we all want for Taos, for several decades into the future.

But we have to be smart, and we have to be strategic. So far through Strong at Heart we have worked with you to learn what our community values are and how they can influence decision-making. Now we can take that next step toward defining a long-term strategy for Taos – one that is action-oriented, prioritized and manageable.

Please mark your calendars and save the date for an important community meeting:

Honor Our Past, Create Our Future

Monday (Nov. 27), 5:30 to 8:00 p.m., UNM Taos, Bataan Memorial Hall at 121 Civic Plaza

There, you can review the progress made since Vision 2020, identify gaps, prioritize focus areas for action, and develop guiding principles that will inform action planning to create a stronger Taos.

Arrive at 5:30 for dinner, socializing with neighbors, and a preview of focus areas for Strong at Heart. Kids are welcome and free childcare is provided. The meeting presentation will start at 6 p.m. followed by community discussion.

Hope to see you there!

P.S. You can review the results of Phase 1 public input summary here and the summary of the On Taos Time meeting here. Thanks.
