Opinion: Kit Carson Telecom needs to recycle

Posted

Dear Editor:

Today, after reading of the United Nation's report about how overconsumption of the earth's resources is causing massive damage and may lead to the extinction of many species, I experienced a prime example of the problem. I had wireless internet service with Kit Carson Telecom. They have had trouble maintaining wireless and I was not interested in signing a two-year contract for fiber optics so I had them cancel service. When I asked them to come get their satellite dish and equipment, I was told that "It was of no use to them anymore so just throw it away." Really? They couldn't market their used equipment to another company that is still using wireless? They couldn't collect it and at least recycle the metal? And it is the responsibility of the (74-year-old) customer to get up on a ladder to remove the equipment or hire someone to remove it? I think it is time for companies to take more responsibility and rethink this "just throw it away" attitude.

Sincerely,

Mary Lyon
