James W. FITZGERALD, Ranchos de Taos resident James W. Fitzgerald died Dec. 28, 2019 in Santa Fe, he was 71 years old. Born Feb. 25, 1948 in El Paso, Texas, Jim and his three siblings creatively tested the limits of their parents’ patience. He graduated from Regis University, Denver, class of ’69. Guided by his Jesuit education, the young Texan believed that every inquiry could be intellectual, a spirit he brought to his publishing career in New York. He was an editor for over 20 years, working at Arno Press, Times Books, The Dial Press, Doubleday, and St. Martin’s Press. In 2000 he became a literary agent, and in 2003 he founded the James Fitzgerald Agency. In late 2018 he bid farewell to NYC and returned west to the mountains of Taos, New Mexico. Predeceased by his parents Ellen (née Grouleff) and James, and brother Keith. Survived by his sister Suzanne Wallis (Michael), brother Scott (Kerri), sister-in-law Jan, daughter Zoe Cauley (William), daughter Farrar Lannon (Thomas), son James, granddaughter Eulalea Cauley, and nephews Kyle and Eric (Alissa), and many beloved friends. Memorial services will be held in Santa Fe and NYC in April.
