It's a party: pet events, clinics come to Questa

Pets in the Questa area are getting some attention this weekend with two pet-centered and pet-friendly events.

Debbie Barela, who is in the process of starting a new pet rescue organization that is to be based out of Questa, will be hosting a "Pet Party" on Saturday (April 27) from noon to 5 p.m. The party will be hosted on Don Martinez Road in Questa, in a lot across the highway from the VFW building.

Barela encouraged people to bring their friendly dogs and the whole family to the event, which will have "little games" for kids and pets.

"I see there is a homeless population of animals out there that's pretty big," she said. Barela can be contacted at (575) 224-0840 for more information.

That same day, both Stray Hearts Animal Shelter and Northern New Mexico Friends of Animals will be hosting a low-cost vaccine clinic for dogs and cats. The clinic will run Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., or until vaccines run out. The clinic will be at Harvest Questa, 2558 State Road 522.

The cost of the clinic is $10, and any animal over 4 months old can get a free microchip.

Next month, the Taos County Sheriff's Office will be offering spay/neuter clinics in Taos. Those clinics are free, though folks will have to pay the $10 licensing fee. The clinics will be held May 4, 5, 18 and 19. Registration is required in advance and can be done by calling Animal Control at (575) 737-6488.
