High speed crash on Kit Carson Road

Accident one of many along stretch leading to Taos Plaza

Posted

Damage to the Casa Benevides wall facing Kit Carson Road reveals the site of apparent first impact for a car that was reportedly traveling west at a high rate of speed toward Taos Plaza late Friday (Sept. 7).

After the Mercedes Benz sedan struck the wall, it appeared to take out a light pole and some landscaping  then careened across the street where it destroyed a parking meter before coming to a stop in front of the old Caffe Tazza building.

A trail of motor oil and fluids traced its path. Witnesses said two people from the car fled the scene, however, one person was reportedly found behind Caffe Tazza in a dazed condition and taken into custody.

This same area has been the site of numerous similar crashes and was the reason for adding a lane barrier, a lower speed limit, and stop sign at the Burch Street and Kit Carson Road intersection.

This is a developing story. As more information becomes available this story will be updated.
