Opinion: Health care for all possible

In The Taos News issue of April 11 (My Turn), George Schurman presents "reasons" why Medicare for All is "impossible."

Then why is it that every other "advanced" nation on the planet manages to have universal health care?

No, I hasten to agree, none of the systems are perfect. What system created by humans is? But they function.

While medical personnel - like all working people - should be well paid, we need to get past the atrocity that health care should be a profit-making business. There is certainly a place in society for business, but health care should not be one of them.

But the glaring reason we can't "afford" universal health care is the insane military budget, some 800 bases abroad and the swollen nuclear weaponry, and the assumption that the United States is divinely appointed to run the world.

Really? Read history.

We can "afford" universal health care, whether Medicare for All, or some other system.

Let's think.
