Expect delays on State Road 68 through Río Grande Gorge due to repaving

Posted

Add an extra 15 minutes to your commute or travel plans through the Río Grande Gorge until end of August beginning Monday, (July 9). The New Mexico Department of Transportation will be repaving State Road 68 from mile post 32.6 to mile post 24.6 south of Taos near Pilar.

Traffic will be reduced to one lane Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.  A pilot car and flagger operation will guide traffic though the work zone.  Traffic will be delayed up to 15 minutes delays during this time.

Cutler Repaving Inc. of Lawrence, Kansas is the contractor for the project.

One lane restrictions on State Road 68 are nothing new for some. Travel through the Gorge was restricted to one lane along different one mile sections for months in 2017 as New Mexico Gas rerouted a gas pipeline.
