Enchanted Forest Cross-Country Ski and Snowshoe Area has been open for business since mid-November.
This is especially welcome since last year's weak snowfall meant the area never opened, and singer-songwriter Michael Martin Murphey and Red River residents even held a benefit concert to keep the area afloat financially.
"This is the best early-season skiing we've had in years," said Mike Ritterhouse, Enchanted Forest's general manager. "We are 100 percent open with trail depths of 4 to 10 inches after the recent storm that gave us 22 inches Nov. 11 and 12. Conditions range from early season with potential obstacles to excellent."
Enchanted Forest is New Mexico's largest -- and only-- full-service cross-country ski area. They offer a full rental shop, professional ski instructors, cross-country ski lessons, ski patrol and a snack bar. They have 32 kilometers of ski trails, 18 kilometers of snowshoe trails, a lodge and a lesson area.
For updated snow conditions, call ahead at (575) 754-6112 or check EFXC.com and/or Facebook for updates.
To encourage families to come out and enjoy winter, Enchanted Forest is offering free trail passes for children ages 12 and under every day of the season. Additionally, with all-inclusive lesson packages (lesson, rentals and trail pass included), Enchanted Forest is a budget-friendly way for families to enjoy winter.
