El Valle water district to vote on sales tax

Posted

Customers of the El Valle de los Ranchos Water and Sanitation district will be voting on a one-quarter percent tax this November after Tuesday's (Oct. 1) Taos County Commission meeting.

The approval means the district will allow its voters to decide whether or not the tax goes on their July 1, 2020 bills. The tax will be paid by businesses in the district, which covers areas of Los Cordovas, Talpa, Llano Quemado and Ranchos de Taos.

Every six years, the district puts the tax up for a vote. The tax helps pay into the general fund for maintenance and upkeep as well as assists the district with loans and other payments.

El Valle de los Ranchos has a total of 933 sewer and 22 water customers.
