Project brings Kit Carson a step closer to 100 percent daytime energy generation from solar

The public is invited to the groundbreaking ceremony for a solar array groundbreaking Friday, (Sept. 13), 10 a.m.  on the Northern New Mexico College campus in El Rito. The project is a collaboration between Kit Carson Electric Cooperative, Guzman Energy and NNMC will help the cooperative reach its goal to provide 100 percent renewable daytime energy by 2022. The El Rito array is one of three new planned arrays providing enough power for 3,400 homes - adding six megawatts of electricity. KCEC officials say teaming up with Guzman Energy allows the electric co-op to offer the lowest wholesale rates in the region – with expected savings up to $70 million in energy costs., according to a press release.
