Several Taoseños and Taos County musicians and singers recently swept the New Mexico Hispano Music Association Awards.

We congratulate them all. They’ve done their communities proud.

The local winners of the 28th awards ceremony held at the Ohkay Casino in Española on Jan. 19 included:

Vocal Duo of the Year, Dynette Marie & Darren Córdova with “Tu Sangre en Mi Cuerpo”;

Bilingual Song of the Year, Brian García’s “It’s Only Make Believe”;

Traditional Ranchera Song of the Year, Dwayne Ortega Band ‘s “Eternas Noches”;

Corrido Song of the Year, Grupo Mezcal’s “Hoy Volo La Paloma”;

Songwriter of the Year, Adonais L. Márquez, “Hoy Volo La Paloma” on the Grupo Mezcal CD;

Youth Song of the Year, Sarae Alise Tafoya-Garcia’s “La Cigarra/The Cicada”;

Youth Artist of the Year, Anakaela Trujillo;

Original Song of the Year, Dynette Marie’s “Para Mis Padres”;

Producer of the Year, Grupo Mezcal, I’m in Taos;

Female Vocalist of the Year, Dynette Marie, “Sueltalo”;

Male Vocalist of the Year, Ernie Marquez, “Me Siento Muy Feliz”;

Song of the Year, Dynette Marie’s “Dame un Beso y Dime Adios”;

CD of the Year, I’m in Taos by Grupo Mezcal;

Band of the Year, Darren Cordova y Calor

Some of these artists have been performing for decades. Others are new on the scene. All have devoted considerable time and effort to pursue their craft.

We salute their commitment to their music and their fans.
