DOT delineates construction plans

Posted

The New Mexico Department of Transportation will hold a public meeting to let the Taos community know more details on the impending extensive construction on Paseo del Pueblo.

Construction will encompass the highway from La Posta Road to Camino de la Placita and will include updates to both the road width and sidewalks along the way.

The meeting will start at 6 p.m. Wednesday (Feb. 26) in the Taos town council chambers. During the meeting the department will be available to answer questions the public may have and will go over the final draft plans for the construction.

New plans for the road include widening the section from La Posta to Los Pandos roads into four lanes as well as bike lanes along the route.

Four intersections will be realigned during the construction including the intersection of Los Pandos and Paseo del Pueblo.

Construction is tentatively scheduled to begin mid-March.

The Department of Transportation has been working on repaving and updating Paseo del Pueblo for several years. Phase one of the project saw the repaving and reworking of the road south of La Posta Road to Ranchos de Taos. New sidewalks and pavement were installed along the route. Similar work will be done with the northern end of the project, which will reach the Taos' Historical District.
