Ranchos dollar store vote stalls till September

The Taos County Planning and Zoning Commission delayed a vote on an application to build a Family Dollar store in Ranchos de Taos that would replace the Taos RV Park.

The planning commissioned instead voted Wednesday (July 11) to continue the hearing on the project that's generated some controversy since first coming to neighbors' attention in 2017, according to Taos County Planning Director Edward Vigil.

A Texas-based developer wants to build a roughly 8,400-square-foot Family Dollar at 1800 Paseo del Pueblo Sur in Ranchos de Taos.

According to a 2017 interview with 7B CEO Chad Merchant, his company has built about 50 dollar stores, which are geared toward low- and middle-income people. Merchant's company built the Family Dollar in Angel Fire.

The commission will pick up where it left off at the Sept. 12 meeting at the Taos County Commission Chambers.
