Thomas L. Sullivan, a longtime New Mexico teacher and superintendent who has headed districts in Farmington and Moriarty, has been appointed by the New Mexico Public Education Department to serve in lieu of the recently suspended Questa school board until Jan. 1, 2020.

According to the agenda posted for the Nov. 21 special meeting by Interim Superintendent Cathy Gallegos, Sullivan will preside over a hearing in closed-door execution session that will address the potential dismissal of an unnamed school employee.

Sullivan has recently been named executive director of the New Mexico Coalition of School Administrators. He spent the past decade in the Farmington, New Mexico public schools, the last eight of those years as superintendent. For 20 years prior to that, he held several posts in the Moriarty, New Mexico district.

Sullivan has served previously as president of the state coalition of administrators and was honored as New Mexico Superintendent of the Year for 2003-2004.
