David Sturgis Woodall Age 68, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 27th, 2018 at his home in Arroyo Seco.
Beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, he was a friend of many in our community. David is preceded in death by his wife of 42 years, Kathleen Woodall. He is survived by his children Lucy and Sam Woodall, grandchildren Monica and Nicole Nordstrom, siblings Bill, Mike, Katie, and Pat, along with many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
David was born and raised in the South, amongst a large extended family. Graduating from the University of North Carolina in journalism, he made his way to the Southwest. Shortly thereafter, he joined his brother, Bill, homesteading in the Huerfano Valley of Colorado.
While visiting Taos he met the love his life, Kathleen, with whom he made a home in Taos when upon settling here. He and his brothers united to form a company called Woodall Brothers Construction, which operated here in the valley for many successful years.
As the years went by, David went on to create his own company, Redwing Construction and built many beautiful custom adobe homes. He was a craftsman and an artist in his own way. David was a man who took pride in being a helpful member in his communities and maintained strong ties in a deliberate way.
A devoted member of his Church, he honored his commitments and helped many. David was passionate about the wilderness and enjoyed hunting, fishing, hiking, camping, and traveling with his family. He photographed nature and animals as often as he could.
David was an intrepid adventurer who pushed boundaries consistently, leaving a legacy of many rich and harrowing stories that will be passed on for many generations. His integrity, kindness, love, and mentorship will live on. We will miss him every day.
