Churches offer free Thanksgiving dinner

Posted

Several Taos area churches are hosting a free Thanksgiving dinner Tuesday (Nov. 26) from 4-8 p.m. at the Juan I. Gonzales Agricultural Center, 202 Chamisa Road.

The event is free and the public is invited.

It is the fifth year churches have come together to offer the free meal. "Last year we served 600 people," said Erasto Zarasua, a pastor helping to coordinate the event.

"We are grateful for the community and we want to bless them," he said.

Zarasua, who is originally from Mexico, has been in Taos 27 years and said he is grateful for all the Taos community has done for the churches and immigrants like him.

Church congregants will be serving up turkey, ham, mashed potatoes, vegetables and a variety of desserts. Zarasua said people from the churches also will be singing in English and Spanish and holding worship services for those who want to attend.

The number of churches participating in helping cook and serve the food has grown to nine. This year the meal is provided by Iglesia Casa d Oración, Iglesia de Dios Pentecostal M.I., Iglesia Lluvias de Gracia, Living Word Ministries, Mt. Zion Tabernacle, Taos Assembly of God Church, Taos Foursquare Church, Taos Potters House and the Well Ministries.

Contact Zarasua at (575) 770-6330 for more information.
