Fuelwood permits available by phone call beginning June 1

Permit good for 10 cords

The Carson National Forest will begin selling fuelwood permits June 1. Although Carson National Forest offices are still closed in keeping with federal guidance and New Mexico public health orders, permits can be purchased over the phone. Permits will then be mailed directly to customers.

Customers should be prepared to provide the following when they call to buy a permit:

• Full Name and ID;

• Mailing address;

• Vehicle information;

• Valid credit card number.

The fuelwood permit, tags and current fuelwood guide will be sent within 10 business days of purchase. Customers who do not receive their permit within 10 business days should call the Forest Service office where the purchase was made.

Any of the Carson National Forest District Offices, as well as the supervisor's office, will be able to issue permits. It does not need to be the customer's local office. Forest offices are expecting a high volume of calls, especially within the first few weeks. Customers may experience busy signals and/or be directed to voicemail; however, representatives will be monitoring voicemails and following up as soon as possible. Customers should leave a voicemail at only one location and provide a name and callback number. Do not leave credit card information on the voicemail.

"We know this is a new process and will take some getting used to, and we realize it isn't ideal. However, we hope that by offering phone sales we can provide our public with the goods and services they expect, in a way that also provides for the safety and well-being of our employees and the public," said Carson Forest Supervisor James Duran.

Below are the hours of operation and the phone numbers for the Carson National Forest offices. These are new phone numbers specifically for fuelwood sales:
