Canutito learns about el inocente Tatayo

Posted

Colorna mañana en el summer, Canutito had gone Colorpa'la Misa con la Grama Cuca. As they were kneeling there at Mass, Colorun hombre kept interrupting Colorcon grandes gritos. Canutito thought Colorque ese hombre was rather rude Colordesde su banco. He sat at the pew Coloren silencio pero he got Colorun poco distraído cada vez that the man shouted. Cuando el Padre finished reading Colorel evangelio y el hombre gritó: "The gospel of the Lord!" Canutito thought  the priest would yell at him Text Colorporque lo interrumpió, Colorpero el Padre only smiled over Colora ese hombre gritón.

Después de la Misa as Canutito was walking al lado de la Grama Cuca, he turned and he asked her: "Grama, ¿por qué estaba ese hombre yelling during Mass?"

"Ese hombre," whispered Grama Cuca, "está corto de espíritu."

"What do you mean que 'he is short of spirit'?" Canutito whispered back.

"Él es un inocente," Grama mumbled. "That means que él es un full-grown man pero tiene la mentalidad de un niño. His name is Santiago pero siendo que he can't speak muy bien, he can only say, 'Yo me llamo Tatayo.' "

Since he only speaks como un niño, can people understand him, grama?" Canutito asked.

"Pretty much, m'hijo," Grama Cuca said mientras que caminaban. "One day I saw him gathering woodchips and he said, '--toy juntando palitos pa'que la Lela me haga 'cochitos.' "

"He was gathering woodchips so that Gabriela would make him some biscochitos." Canutito translated. "No es muy difícil de entender what he is saying."

Grama Cuca smiled, as she continued walking. "Tatayo got his 'cochitos pero when he was going to eat them entonces se le cayeron en el suelo. He picked up the cookies from the floor y dijo: '¡Oh no! Ahora los 'cochitos tienen germanies.' "

"He knew que los biscochitos had germs," Canutito said mirando hacia la tierra, trying to imagine a los biscochitos con microbios. "Despite the fact de que era un inocente, he seemed to be muy inteligente de otras maneras."

", m'hijo," Grama Cuca agreed. "Tatayo was a smart man-child. Un día su papá estaba poniendo tile en la cocina. Tatayo lo estaba watchando con muy interés. He marveled de cómo todas esas azulejas fit together so well on the kitchen floor. Cuando su papá had finished poniendo el tile, Tatayo put un toilet paper roll hacia su boca como un microphone and he announced: 'Damas y caballeros, the Tylenol is beautiful!' He almost got is right porque 'tile' sounds como 'Tylenol.' "

Grama Cuca added con una sonrisa, "Un día Tatayo's foot was hurting so he told Lela: 'Yo tengo un heart attack en una pata!' "

Canutito also smiled at the thought de que Tatayo thought que tenia un ataque de corazón on his foot. Ésa era true innocence. Ahora Canutito understood la verdadera inocencia.

Al día siguiente Grama Cuca came into Canutito's bedroom para despertarlo. When she had awakened him, she said sadly: "M'hijo, Tatayo died last night. Ahora I'm sure de que he is singing entre todos los otros inocentes en el Cielo."

"Why do you say that, grama?" le preguntó Canutito rubbing las lagañas away de sus ojos.

"Si todo lo que el Tatayo understood during Mass era como decir 'the Gospel of the Lord', entonces that total inocencia y confianza surely earned him un lugar en el Cielo"…
