Canutito has a camacho and he is molacho

Una tarde, antes de acostarse, Canutito was sitting uncomfortably en la mesa de la cocina holding on to his head and his jaw. Algo estaba throbbing en la frente y en la quijada del niño and he didn't know qué estaba pasando. He had been jumping en la cama and somehow he had slipped y se cayó y se dio un tope en la frente.

Grama Cuca saw que tenía un camacho y had come and given him un butter knife en una copa de agua fría. Con ese cuchillo in the cold water, she massaged the bump on his forehead, saying: "Sana, sana, colita de rana. Si no sanas hoy, sanarás mañana." [Be healed, be healed little frog's tail. If you don't heal today, then tomorrow without fail].

Once the bump had gone down le miró la boca; she was afraid que falta que he had knocked uno de sus baby teeth loose y lo eso le dolía. Grama Cuca had ground up unos clavos del spice box and she had put that cloves powder on his gums para adormirle el dolor en la encilla pero parecía que nothing was helping his pain. Grama Cuca put her hand on his forehead para ver si tenía calentura.

Grampo Caralampio came by para ver por qué el niño had not got to bed yet y lo halló leaning on the kitchen table drooling vavas en ella with his eyes shut. "Yo pienso que vamos a tener que sacarle el diente con un mecate, Cuca," he half-whispered to grama.

"What do you mean you are going to have to 'pull out my tooth with a string,' grampo?" Canutito suddenly asked, waking up.

"Usually, cuando tiene dolor en la boca," grampo began, "you take a string and you tie it around your tooth y luego la das un buen jalón y el diente just pops right out of your mouth, m'hijo. When you give it a good pull, it comes out tan rápido que no haces feel anything."

Canutito said: "I'll try anything porque el dolor que tengo es bien bárbaro." He touched his tooth para enseñarles which one it was y de repente, el diente salió solo.

Grama Cuca smiled y vino right over con agua de sal para que el niño could rinse out his mouth con esa saline solution. Grampo Caralampio polished his tooth y le dijo: "¡Ay, molacho!" referring to his missing tooth.

La Grama Cuca vino a su defensa: "Sí molacho, ¡pero buen muchacho!" she exclaimed.

Grampo Caralampio said: "Ahora you can toss it at the sun and ask him to send you a better one. Antes de tirarlo, you have to say: "Sol, sol, toma este diente y dame otro mejor."

"Hay otra manera of getting a new tooth, m'hijo," Grama Cuca said. "En México dicen que hay un ratóncito by the name of Don Paco Muelas and that little mouse comes for your tooth y lo pone en una cajita de cristal." She put una aspirina en su boca.

"Whatever happened to the Tooth Fairy, grama?" Canutito asked her. "Mi amigo, el Filimotas told me que ese hada viene y se lleva el diente malo and replaces in con dinero. He also told me que lo más que duela el diente, the more money you're supposed to get for it. Mi dolor era tan grande que I think I should get a million dollars."

"I think que el hada de los dientes vive en una depresión económica, m'hijo," Grampo Caralampio said. "Maybe que the Good Fairy podrá traerte un nicle for your trouble."

Canutito nomás hizo shrug his shoulders ahora que la aspirina started to kick in. He just rolled over en su lão, cerró los ojos and he dozed off. Estaba bien contento que he wasn't in pain any more. He was dreaming de colitas de rana, el sol, Paco Muelas y el Tooth Fairy. …
