New Mexico State Police officials and experts with the Office of the Medical Investigator are looking into the death of an unidentified person whose body was found on a road in Ranchos de Taos on Wednesday (Aug. 28).
Taos County Sheriff's Deputies and New Mexico State Police Officers have blocked the intersection at Cuchilla Road and Mauro Road where the body was found as they await the arrival of OMI.
Edwardo Martinez, state police commander in Taos, could not confirm whether the deceased was a man or a woman as of Wednesday evening.
A conservation officer from the New Mexico Department of Game and Fish was also on scene.
While Martinez said law enforcement initially suspected wildlife may have been involved in the person's death, his office is awaiting an official determination from experts with OMI.
Neighbors who gathered in the neighborhood south of Taos also did not seem to know on Wednesday who the person was or how they had died.
