The Town of Taos and the Taos Arts Council have released the names of the winning artists of the 2nd annual Taos is Art Lamppost Banner Competition.
Sixty-six winners were chosen from more than 200 submissions, and those winners will have their work featured on banners that can be viewed all around downtown Taos, stated a press release from Marissa Le of The Waite Company, the marketing agency for town of Taos.
The public display will run from April to October of this year. The Lamppost Banner Competition is conducted to "celebrate and acknowledge Taos’s living artists and to educate visitors about the local, thriving art scene. Thank you to New Mexico Arts, Taos Community Foundation and Grace Family Foundation for their support," Le states in the release.
Of the 66 winners, 41 will have their work featured on 30-by-60 inch lamppost banners lining Paseo del Pueblo Sur y Norte, while the other 25 will be on 18-by-30 inch banners lining Bent Street, Kit Carson Road, Teresina Lane, Scheurlich Lane and Juan Largo. All banners will be installed by April 1.
“By popular demand, the art banner competition is back for its second year,” said Karina Armijo, Director of Marketing and Tourism for the town of Taos, in a prepared statement. “The enthusiasm and support from the town and the arts community has made this competition such a success. The number of banner entries we received this year clearly shows that Taos has so much incredible, diverse art to offer. We are excited to showcase the banners for our visitors and locals to enjoy.”
The Taos Art Council will host a public reception to show poster reproductions of the banner designs May 3, 5-7 p.m., at Town Hall, 400 Camino de la Placita.
The posters will remain on display until July 26, 2019.
