Art that celebrates animals in our homes

“A Heart Needs a Home” is a photography show that celebrates animals in our homes. As part of the Taos Arts Council’s Art in Public Spaces Initiative, the show will open with a reception Friday (Feb. 15), 5-7 p.m., at Town Hall, 400 Camino de la Placita.

Artists were invited to respond to this open, non-juried exhibition. “We love our pets and adore photos of pets! We wish to celebrate this while helping Stray Hearts Animal Shelter by donating 50 percent of the Taos Arts Council share of any proceeds from sales to Stray Hearts [Animal Shelter],” an announcement for the show states.

The Taos Arts Council is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that works to promote awareness, understanding and appreciations of all the creative arts and to be an advocate for the artists and arts organizations in Taos County and Northern New Mexico. For more information, call Taos Arts Council President Paul Figueroa at (575) 779-8579.

Airstream Art Show at Sage Gallery

“Freedom Beauty Travel” is a exhibit of new paintings by British artist and Taos resident Elizabeth Jose. Exploring the Southwest with her vintage Airstream trailer, Jose seeks out canyons and mesas lit up by bright blue skies or glorious sunsets, historic highways with roadside attractions and remote boondocking spots in spectacular scenery. The opening reception for the show is planned Saturday (Feb. 16), 4-7 p.m., at Sage Fine Art, 115 East Taos Plaza. The show continues through November. For more information, call (575) 758-9396 or visit sagefineart.com.

Kimberly Webber to show in Sedona

An exhibition featuring Kimberly Webber’s paintings are on view now through March 8 at Exposures International Gallery of Fine Art in Sedona, Arizona. Webber uses a signature fusion of Eastern and Western styles to create “contemporary symbolist paintings. Her subject matter revolves around the liminal space of dreams, deep memory and the feminine archetypes. A significant theme for Webber in her work is the empowerment of women. She also uses her medium to raise awareness for endangered animals through their continual representation in her work,” according to the gallery announcement. Exposures International Gallery of Fine Art is located at 561 State Route 179 in Sedona. For more information, contact (928) 282-1125 or visit exposuresfineart.com.
