Crews from several area agencies teamed up to combat a residential fire Sunday night (Feb. 16) that eventually destroyed a home on the east side of Arroyo Hondo.

Taos County Fire Chief Michael Cordova said the fire swept through the entire house as firefighters worked to control the blaze into the early hours of Monday morning (Feb. 17). Fire teams from Hondo-Seco, Taos, San Cristobal, La Lama and Questa fire departments responded to the fire. County medics, deputies, public works and Kit Carson Electric workers also provided support.

The cause of the fire, Cordova said, was still under investigation as of Monday afternoon.

Victor Salazar from the Hondo-Seco Volunteer Fire Department said crews responded to the blaze around 7 p.m. Sunday. He said a male resident got out of the house and was believed to have been treated at the scene for smoke inhalation but was not taken to the hospital.

The residence suffered a partial roof collapse during the fire, Salazar said. As of 1 a.m Monday, crews were still on scene dousing hotspots in the front of the house and on the remaining roof.

Reporter John Miller contributed to this report.
