An annual fundraiser launches Friday (Sept. 7) for Taos Search and Rescue, a donation-based organization responsible for rescuing countless lost and injured people in the Taos County area and beyond for the past 35 years.

The volunteer-based organization receives no public funding, relying entirely on donations to its operations, which are overseen by New Mexico State Police.

Members of the local team will be stationed outside Walmart, ACE Hardware, Cid's Food Market and Taos Farmer's Market.

Donations can also be made via the team's Facebook page.

Volunteers with Taos Search and Rescue's growing team went on 18 search and rescue missions last year and 12 so far this year.

This summer, in addition to its weekly trainings around Taos County, search and rescue has participated in a helicopter training. The team has also deployed a newly-acquired FAA certified drone, which assists in the team's frequent callouts to the Río Grande Gorge.

For more information, including how you can volunteer, visit search and rescue's website.
