The No. 1 Peñasco Lady Panthers and No. 2 Mescalero Apache Chiefs faced off in the Girls 2A state championship on Friday (March 13) at the Pit – and with 0 fans in attendance.

On Wednesday (March 11), the NMAA announced that both media and fans would be barred from attending. In a turn of events, on Friday and Saturday (March 13-14) media was allowed back in under set conditions.

On Friday for the game, there were two reporters – Geoff Grammar of the Albuquerque Journal and myself, Matthew Narvaiz, the sports editor at the Taos News

Here are some photos from the game, including the thrill – and agony, unfortunately for the Lady Panthers – of defeat. And also a photo of an empty Pit arena, which is something I must admit I never thought I would see for state basketball... ever.
