Abeyta Settlement public forum on Wednesday

Posted

Guardians of Taos Water, the loose coalition of water protectors and activists that has been drawing attention to a complex water rights settlement in the Taos Valley, will be hosting a public forum on the Abeyta Settlement.

The forum will be happening Wednesday (May 1) from 6 to 9 p.m. at Bataan Hall on Civic Plaza Drive in Taos.

According to the group, all parties to the Abeyta Settlement have been invited to participate in the forum.

Rick Bellis, town of Taos manager, said town officials would not be in attendance, as they are working with the Utton Transboundary Resource Center at the University of New Mexico on a public information campaign.

As of press time, Taos Pueblo officials hadn't responded to an inquiry about their participation in the event.

An El Prado Water and Sanitation District employee said they would determine their participation during a Wednesday (April 24) board meeting, which is after The Taos News goes to press.
