It was a multicultural treat for locals and visitors at the weekly Taos Plaza Live free summer concert Thursday (June 27). Not only was there exceptionally fine music by Mina Tank with Bob Andrews, along with the Jennifer Peterson Band, but because the Taos County Chamber of Commerce designated it “Taos Pueblo Night” there was even more of a colorful reason to enjoy.
Opening the chamber-sponsored event, Taos Pueblo Governor Richard Aspenwind offered an invocation and invited everyone to come and visit the village, while also mentioning the upcoming Taos Pueblo Powwow (July 12-14). He also referred to the groundbreaking opening of the new Hail Creek Travel Center, which took place Friday (June 28) at the site of the tribe’s smoke shop at the corner of Hail Creek Road and Paseo del Pueblo Norte.
In addition, the Concha family and other tribal members danced, drummed and sang, capped off by a round dance that gathered many of the large crowd in attendance to participate. For many of the visitors, it was a surprise multicultural treat and for locals, it brought family and friends together from across the two communities.
