Nathan Burton/Taos News

Nick Cordova of Santa Fe catches big air Friday (Nov. 18) during opening day at Sipapu Ski and Summer Resort.

Thanksgiving in most places around the U.S. includes the traditional meal of turkey, stuffing and gravy, plus time with family and friends. Northern New Mexico has all that, too, but for many, the holiday has also become inextricably linked to the start of a new ski season. Sipapu Ski & Summer Resort kicked off the return of snowsports in the region last Friday (Nov. 18), and Red River Ski & Summer Area opens today, Wednesday (Nov. 23). Angel Fire has scheduled opening day for Dec. 16.
