Finally, opening day

On Thursday (July 23), Major League Baseball will finally have its opening day.

The season will kick off with a New York Yankees versus Washington Nationals game at 5:08 p.m. and then at 8:08 p.m. the San Francisco Giants and Los Angeles Dodgers will face off.

On Friday (July 24), 14 games will happen with the first of those games starting at 2:10 p.m. when the Atlanta Braves face the New York Mets.

NBA looking to finish up the season

It's been about four months since the NBA suspended its season due to the outbreak of a novel coronavirus, but the league is looking to get back into action soon.

While this isn't a new season, 22 teams will resume their quest for an NBA Championship in Orlando on July 30. There will be eight regular season games left to play before the playoffs start – which starts on Aug. 17.

New Mexico United's first home match postponed

New Mexico United's home match against Real Monarchs SLC on July 29 will be postponed, Geoff Grammer of the Albuquerque Journal reported.

Still, United has a match against El Paso FC on the road on Friday (July 24) and then another road match against OKC Energy FC on August 1.

Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham's office told Grammer that even United must abide by the 14-day quarantine when entering the state, though it's not clear how that has been working out – or will in the future.

Bull of the Woods canceled

The fifth annual Bull of the Woods trail race will be canceled this year due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Originally scheduled for Sep. 19, Bull of the Woods consisted of both a marathon and half-marathon and it took place at Taos Ski Valley.

"We apologize and are saddened that we will not be able to continue to grow this fantastic race, but we look forward to bringing it back in the summer of 2021," read a portion of a press release from Taos Ski Valley.
