Bicyclists from 19 states will arrive in Red River on Saturday (Aug. 28) for a cycling event that will take them on an end-of-summer ride around the Enchanted Circle.
Hosted by Roll Massif, a part of Outside Inc., and a collection of Colorado-based cycling events, the ride will include two scenic courses: 85-mile loop or 100-mile century ride.
Starting and finishing in Red River, racers from ages 10 to 79 will ride counterclockwise on the Enchanted Circle Bicycle Tour, passing through Questa, Taos and Eagle Nest. Riders will reach a peak elevation of 9,820 feet at Bobcat Pass.
"Participants will have the opportunity to ride some of the most picturesque areas in the Southwest, experiencing rewarding climbs, rolling hills, fast descents and hairpin turns," reads a press release from Roll Massif. "Course support includes route signage, law enforcement/medical, road marshals, SAGs and fully stocked aid stations, to include bike mechanics."
To participate, riders can register Friday (Aug. 27) from 4-8 p.m. and Saturday (Aug. 28) from 6-7:30 a.m. at the Red River Conference Center.
Part of the proceeds from entry fees of either $100-115 will help support Red River Valley Foundation, an organization which makes grants to "nonprofit, civic and philanthropic organizations in a variety of areas." The tour will also support a number of local nonprofit organizations who help with services such as aid stations, road marshals and registration.
The tour will be followed by a Taco Bar, courtesy of Shotgun Willie's, and live music by JJ & the Hooligans. Red River Brewing Company & Distillery will also provide beer and cocktails.
Drivers traveling in the area this weekend are asked to exercise caution on State Roads 522 and 343, and US 64.
