A novel coronavirus, named Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), was identified as the cause of an outbreak of respiratory illness first detected in Wuhan, China in 2019. The illness caused by this virus has been named coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

UPDATE:>> COVID-19 tally: 12,276 cases in New Mexico; 500 deaths; one new case in Taos County

The New Mexico Department of Health has reported 130 new cases of COVID-19 in the state, for a total of 12,276 to date. Taos County has a one case, for a total of 43. The state also announced three additional deaths related to the virus on Wednesday (July 1), for a total of 500.
