Sugar Lane murder suspect denied bail

Martin Rivera was denied bail at a detention hearing Monday (Nov. 18), but his defense attorney, Chico Gallegos, said he may request a hearing in the future to review his client's conditions of release. Rivera faces a charge of second-degree murder and six other counts alleging he shot and killed Javier Muñoz in El Prado in October.

The state Public Education Department has appointed Thomas Sullivan to oversee the Questa school board until a new board takes office in January.

Thomas L. Sullivan, a longtime New Mexico teacher and superintendent who has headed districts in Farmington and Moriarty, has been appointed by the New Mexico Public Education Department to serve in lieu of the recently suspended Questa school board until Jan. 1, 2020.

The Taos Winter Sports Team will be hosting its annual Ski Swap on Saturday-Sunday (Nov. 16-17) at the Sagebrush Inn, 1508 Paseo del Pueblo Sur, Taos. The swap starts at 10 a.m. on both days. If you're interested in selling snow sports equipment, you can drop it off on Friday (Nov. 15) between noon and 6 p.m.
