The Forest Service discussed their plans for handling the Rainbow Gathering event that is gaining momentum as it heads into its July 4 culmination. Employees of the Carson National Forest and a Type III incident management team that have been brought in to take lead for the happening spoke to the public Thursday (June 24) to explain their plan of action and provide general information about the gathering.

After the hoopla around the Rainbow Gathering and the reopening of local shops, it seems the answer to that question is a solid: No.

We want tourism and normalcy. But the reality of having to return to work wearing socially-acceptable attire is a different story. Reopening our home and welcoming in the neighbors, who may or may not place the same value on vaccination and the fight against COVID as we have? Our house just isn't ready for that.

Taos artist Shari Ubechel upon landing in Taos found herself living in a shack in Tres Piedras on 500 acres with a coyote named Wiley.
