High School graduation is a tremendous milestone for any young person. It marks the culmination of 12 years of learning, growth and change. Since its first seven graduates in 1921, Taos High School has seen thousands cross the stage to receive their diplomas. Some students, however, never get that opportunity; life throws different curveballs at different people, but at least one Taos Pueblo student this year refused to let life get in the way of his goal.

Take a deep breath. Slowly inhale … one, two, three. Slowly exhale. Settle into your body. Now, I want you to imagine a time and space where you are free to be creative. If you had all the time and money you needed, where would you want to be to conceive that new series, start that new book, finish that painting?

The artist retreat, more formally called the artist residency, provides the space and time for artists to focus on their creative endeavors. For me, in a residency I'm able to give myself permission to just make art.

The Los Alamos National Laboratory gave a special online presentation to the Taos Municipal Schools District at its school board meeting Wednesday, April 21. LANL discussed its recent efforts in building-trades classes, Taos High School students who received LANL Foundation scholarships and the Lab's creation of an online STEAM learning center.
