Meteorologists at the National Weather Service are tracking a storm they expect to dump some snow across Northern New Mexico beginning Monday evening (Jan. 18) and cause damaging winds into the central part of the state beginning Tuesday morning.

"Gusty winds in the Rio Grande Valley may create difficult driving conditions for high profile vehicles," according to a statement from the National Weather Service in Albuquerque. Conditions could include 50 to 60 mile per hour gusts and dangerous crosswinds along the Interstate 25 corridor through the Río Grande Valley.

Snowfall is expected to start on the east side of the Sangre de Cristo mountains Monday afternoon and spread across the northern region including Taos into Tuesday. Taos is expected to get up to 5 inches of snow while the Enchanted Circle communities can expect 10 to 11 inches.
