Some local residents may want to start getting out their candles and flashlights because Kit Carson Electric Cooperative is planning a scheduled power outage on Tuesday (Jan. 5). Residents of Arroyo Hondo, Valdez, Des Montes, Taos Ski Valley and those living on Hondo-Seco Road will temporarily lose power as the rural utility installs new and updated equipment at its area substation.  According to a news release, KCEC says residents in the affected areas can expect to be without power from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

The outage is part of KCEC’s recent efforts to replace outdated equipment as they seek to embrace energy efficiency and renewable energy strategies.
