Joyce A. Rains

Age 92, passed away at home in Chesapeake Virginia around midnight on April 19, 2023.  She is preceded in death by her parents, Isreal Lloyd and Maxie Allen; her brother, Charles Allen; her husband, Fred Lee Rains; and her youngest son, Charles T. Rains.  Joyce leaves behind her children, Cathy Rains, Wade (Ivy) Rains, Cheri Rains, and Claire (Pete) Doetsch, along with numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and many friends and loved ones.  She worked for 30 years as a bookkeeper for Bentsen Development in Mission, TX, which is where she and Fred raised their children.  She moved to Angel Fire, NM as a widow in July or August 1993.  She worked at the Chamber of Commerce,  Access Data, Valley Market(Lowe's), and Scenic Structures, among others.  Joyce also traveled extensively in her lifetime, but her greatest joy later in life was being up on the snowy or aspen lined peaks, in "her little house" on "her mountain" watching "her wildlife" with her beloved pets, "waitin' on the snowplow".  Thank you Allen Benjamin for always being there.  Thank you Elsie and Stephanie and Jesus at Lowe's for being so kind.  Thank you Tess and the folks at the post office.  Thank you Sunny and Agnes and Nancy and Mickey.  Thank you to the folks at the bank, and all the others in the Angel Fire community that she loved so dearly and wanted to be with until the day she died.  Joyce always put others before herself.  She was "one of the good ones".  She was blessed to have the wonderful caretakers that she had in Texas, Lisa DeLeon and Stephanie Chapa.  She was also blessed with those at Interim Hospice in Virginia;  Nurse Rena, Caretaker Sheree, Social Worker Kiara, Jennifer, LaToya, Dr. Ring, Nurse Olivia, Nurse Chelsea, Melanie, and several others. We thank you so very much and we are so very grateful.
