Age 87, of Arroyo Seco passed away peacefully surrounded by family on July 26, 2020, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s. She is preceded in death by her husband, Fidel A. Garcia, daughter, Elaine Valdez, parents Ambrosio and Maria de la Paz Madrid, sister, Eloisa Garcia and brothers Frank J. Madrid and Leopoldo Madrid.Affectionately known as GrandmaB or Nana, she relished in spending any and every occasion with her family at her home in Arroyo Seco. Elvira worked for many years at Holy Cross Hospital and La Cocina de Taos and was renowned for her famous green chili and many baked goods. She was a proud and devout Guadalupana of the Holy Trinity Parish in Arroyo Seco. Elvira is survived by her children, Berlinda Madrid (Uvaldo Olonia) of Taos, Gerald Garcia (Lina) of Arroyo Seco, Jessie Garcia (Francella) of Llano Quemado, Ray Garcia (Beth) of Arroyo Seco, Verna Montez (Steve) of Las Cruces, Maryann Garcia (Pete) of Arroyo Seco, Antonia Valdez (Tony) of Velarde, and son in law Alonzo Valdez of Arroyo Seco. She is also survived by her 13 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, sisters Rose Martinez of Pueblo, CO, Olivia Rendon (George) of Montrose, CO, many nieces, nephews and other relatives. A private funeral mass will be held at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Arroyo Seco. Elvira will be interred with her late husband at the Santa Fe National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, her family asks that donations be made in memory of Elvira Garcia to the Alzheimer’s Drug Discovery Foundation.
