Doreen Maybell Becker- Cantu

Passed away on Saturday, October 31, 2020 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s. Her husband stood by her side, taking care of her for over 7 years. She spent 7 more years in Long Term Care in Las Vegas, NM. Her spirit is now free! We will never forget her or the love she spread to this world. Doreen was born on November 8, 1947 in Champaign- Urbana, Illinois. She graduated from Palos Verdes High School where she played the viola in the school orchestra. Dori then graduated from UCLA where she received a BS in Anthropology, specialty: North American Archaeology. She received her MS in Anthropology, specialty: North American Archaeology from UC Santa Barbara. Amidst studies for her PHD, she decided to move to Taos, New Mexico to become a flowerchild and continue her life adventure. Dori was a proud and loving mother, wonderful wife and beloved best friend. A gifted leather tailor and an avid gardener; a knowledgeable herbalist and survivalist; an awesome baker and cook; a smooth as silk dancer and a great marksman. Mother Nature was her church and love, kindness, honesty and generosity were her way of living. She was a vaquera y ranchera, from roping and branding to pulling calves. Doreen was a super woman who could do anything! A joy and delight to be around, she was the rock and glue of her family. Encouraging everyone to think for themselves and forge their own paths, she was her children’s greatest advocate. Dori is preceded in death by her son, Luciano James Hopkins; father, Robert A.
