April Martinez-Laveta

Age 33, a resident of Taos Pueblo, passed away peacefully August 13, 2020. She was preceded in death by her siblings Amber Dawn Martinez and Walt J. Fields; grandfathers Ralph Martinez and Jean-Claude Arteau; and great grandfather Frank C. Martinez. April was the first female Forest Firefighter and Ranger of Taos Pueblo.  She loved spending her time in the outdoors, was a talented artist and enjoyed traveling.  April was devoted to her native tradition, had faith and had a passion for music. She is survived by her mothers Theresa Gonzales, Veronica Laveta (Jennifer Banyan), Tawnya Laveta (Loretta McGrath); siblings Amy Martinez and Eugina Gonzales; nephews and niece Davi Lopez Jr., Riana Lopez, Oseas Walt Fresquez and many other loving relatives and friends. Private services were held in the Evergreen Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home of Taos with burial at Taos Pueblo.
