In order to prevent the spread of COVID-19, Smith’s has temporarily suspended the use of reusable bags at their Taos location.

The Kroger grocery chain announced Thursday (March 26) over the intercom as well as by posted flyers that customers would not be allowed to use the reusable bags they bring in for the time being.

The notice does not give an end date to the ban.

The decision to discontinue use of the reusable bags comes as the town of Taos recently passed an ordinance to ban the use of plastic grocery bags in the community.

Taos County currently has three active cases of the virus as numbers across the state have jumped to 112.

This is a developing story.
