The Ranchos Post Office is back in business today (Nov. 10) now that repairs have been completed following a fire in its loading dock area last month.

The post office's interior smells a little smoky but the lobby was open early this morning for postal customers to retrieve mail. A worker was clearing snow off the sidewalk.

Since the fire, customers have been picking up their mail at the Postal Annex on Bertha Street in Taos. Customers have reported waiting up to two hours although that improved after hours were increased and more employees were added.

Crews worked on the post office seven days a week to get it in shape.

The fire broke out the around 9:45 p.m. Oct. 24, damaging only a loading dock at the rear of the building. No one was harmed and no mail was lost according to the Taos Volunteer Fire Department. The fire is still under investigation.
