Police, vehicular accident

Just after 5 p.m. on Tuesday (March 16), various agencies responded to a report of a single vehicle crash on The High Road to Taos - State Road 76 - at milepost 26, near the intersection with El Valle Road, just between Trampas and Chamisal.

The Taos County Sheriff's Office, Peñasco Fire Department and New Mexico State Police all responded to the accident, with NMSP taking the lead.

According to a statement from NMSP, the initial investigation found that a 2004 Ford pickup was headed north on State Road 76 when, for unknown reasons, the vehicle left the roadway and rolled over.

The driver, who was identified as John Dickson, 43, of Truchas, was ejected from the vehicle and sustained "fatal injuries." He was pronounced dead by the Office of the Medical Investigator.

NMSP said that they do not think alcohol was a factor in the crash, but it did appear that Dickson was not wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash. It is still being investigated by NMSP.
