Meetings this week: town and county joint work session, public bank discussion

This week, nearly every governmental body around the Enchanted Circle will hold a meeting. The town of Taos will discuss the possibility of a public bank, and will also hold a joint work session with the Taos County Board of Commissioners. Questa will discuss amendments to the water and sewer ordinance, and Taos Municipal Schools will discuss end of year graduation requirements.

Town of Taos:

  • Town of Taos Regular Council Meeting: Tuesday, Feb. 23 at 4 p.m.
    • The council will hear a coronavirus update from town manager Richard Bellis, GIS analyst Tim Corner, facilities and special events director Mitch Miller, human resources director Tamara Chavez, and public affairs and tourism director Karina Armijo.
    • There will also be a presentation on the possible adoption of a resolution urging the New Mexico State Legislature to establish a state public bank.
    • The council will discuss and potentially approve several budget adjustments, including to the general fund, the water and sewer income fund and the Taos regional landfill fund.
    • There will be a public hearing about the naming of three private easements off Calle Cornelio.

Taos County:

  • Taos County Board of Commissioners and Town of Taos Council Joint Work Session Meeting: Thursday, Feb. 25 at 2 p.m.
    • The board of commissioners and town council will discuss potential areas of coordination in regards to short-term rentals and the Lodger’s Tax.
    • They will also discuss coordinating COVID related assistance, including funding options and relevant legislation. They will also talk about steps to take post-COVID.

Angel Fire:

  • Angel Fire Beautification Committee Meeting: Wednesday, Feb. 24 at 3 p.m.
    • The committee will select a chairperson and a secretary, as well discuss spring cleanup details
    • The public can register to attend the meeting by going to attendee.gotowebinar.com/register/4939247438118597019. After registering, attendees will receive a confirmation email with instructions to join the meeting.

Questa:

  • Village of Questa Regular Council Meeting: Tuesday, Feb. 23 at 6 p.m.
    • There will be a public hearing to get input to the proposed amendments to the Questa Water and Sewer Ordinance.
    • The council will also discuss and potentially nominate a representative to the Questa Land and Water Board.

Taos Ski Valley:

  • Village of Taos Ski Valley Regular Council Meeting: Tuesday, Feb. 23 at 2 p.m.
    • The council will hear committee reports from the Planning and Zoning committee, the Public Safety committee, the Firewise Community board, the Parks and Recreation committee, the Lodgers Tax Advisory Board and the Capital Advisory Infrastructure committee, along with updates from the village staff.
    • The council will also consider several resolutions , including several applications for financial assistance from the New Mexico Department of Transportation.

Schools:

  • Taos Municipal Schools Board of Education Meeting: Wednesday, Feb. 24 at 6 p.m.
    • The board will hear a reopening update from CJ Grace, as well as updates from the administrators and superintendent.
    • Brenda Halder with the Finance Office will submit several budget adjustment requests.
    • The board will discuss a memorandum of understanding between TFUSE and TMSD regarding end of school year extended contract days.
    • Academic year graduation requirements will also be discussed.
