The New Mexico Public Health Division will be offering Taos County first responders free testing for the novel coronavirus this Thursday (June 19).

Emergency service workers will be able to get a test from 8 to 11 a.m. at the Taos Public Health Office at 1400 Weimer Road.

First responders in Taos County have been taking precautions when dealing with a potential COVID-19 call. They even have a separate ambulance for such calls, which is disinfected after each use. One such call went out Monday evening (June 15) for a woman suffering from COVID-19, according to reports overheard on Taos Central Dispatch. Bill Patten, the chief executive officer at Holy Cross Medical Center, said she was not admitted to inpatient care.

Taos County currently has 33 confirmed cases of the disease, with 18 people who have recovered, according to data from the New Mexico Department of Health.

Both the town of Taos and Taos County remain under emergency precautions to prevent the possible spread of the virus in the community.

Tests for the general public can be obtained for free at the Taos Public Health Office from 10 a.m. to noon on Mondays and from 9 to 11 a.m. on Wednesdays. Holy Cross Medical Center offers testing from 9 a.m. to noon on Fridays. Tests can also be obtained from El Centro Family Health from 1 to 4 p.m. on Tuesdays.
