A 28-year-old Questa man died near his hometown Wednesday evening (Nov. 24) after he lost control and his car rolled in the mountains on Highway 38, according to the Taos County Sheriff's Office.

Sheriff Jerry Hogrefe stated in a press release that the man's family was still being notified of his death, and so the identity of the driver hadn't been released as of Thursday morning (Nov. 25).

The man was ejected from his vehicle during the crash, and no other vehicles are believed to have been involved in the accident. Hogrefe said an investigation at the scene of the crash, located around mile marker 3, indicated that the man was not wearing a seatbelt when the car rolled. Speed "and other factors," the press release states, are suspected causes of the crash.

"Our positive thoughts and prayers go out to all first responders that had to see this and to the family of the deceased," the sheriff said.
